What happened to my backdated entries?

You might notice that your Blip count has gone up since the launch of the new site. This is because your backdated entries have been added to your normal blip count, after all they are blips of a specific day, so why not let them be involved!

When we asked for feedback about features on the old site, we discovered that most people were confused as to what backdated blip actually was. Therefore the new calculation should make things easier.

*Update*

We are really sorry for any 'anniversary Blips' that have been missed as a result of this change. I will take this feedback and pass it on to the team!

The importance of the 'birthdays' and 'anniversaries' are no less important to us. In fact, we hope that we will be able to reinforce these great little moments that bring the community together even more!

This feedback will be considered properly, but we want to take this opportunity now to let you know that we and apologise and understand your frustration at any missed celebration'.

Oh no! I've missed my 2000th in that case!!

I quite liked the idea of having a 'vault' for my pre-blip scans and archive pics - a useful members feature, in my opinion. These don't really fit as part of my blip experience. I can see how the numbering might have been a bit confusing though.

I agree with xb. It's a minor thing for me but I'm quite proud that I've not got any gaps in my journal since my first blip, but now that my backblips count to the total, this isn't really the case anymore.

Maybe a tickbox to say that you do or don't want your backblips counting towards your total?

I am with PaulFS and xb, while it might seem confusing, for my own blip experience, it was a really important thing to have an accurate count of how many days in a row I had managed to keep blipping, but as I had posted several hundred backblips, I have now been bumped well over my 1500, which looks like I've been blipping for far long than I have. Any chance at least of a 'joined blipfoto' date on the profile page like there used to be if I remember rightly?

This is a terrible idea. It's misleading and not fair to people who have been blipping consistently and continuously, but with few or no pre-blips. I saw one new member post over 150 pre-blips. That would give him an unprecedented and inaccurate count of possible consecutive blips considering those 150+ pre-blips were not consecutive. They were (I asked him) spread over eight years of family photos he wished to preserve.

I don't know if you can put the genie back in the bottle now, but I don't see the big blip anniversary/milestone celebrations anymore. I think the de-emphasis on these, anyway, stinks. It looks like there's a change...celebrate 400?...no special cameras, which I loved because it gave me something to aspire to and people to respect when I saw the camera by their names. When you add these photos, it takes all the meaning of these things away from the core of what accomplishing something on blipfoto is all about. A real sense of pride in what you have achieved! (without cheating)

I have to say, this is my one gripe with the new site. Intended as feedback rather than a moan. I think some will feel they've cheated by including backdated entries, whilst others will feel aggrieved that there's now a perceived short cut available to users to artificially increase their count.

Do think this is a shame - I wasn't confused at all! My blipversary has always been a "special" day to try and celebrate in some sort of way - however if year/s milestones are to still be celebrated as before it'll now be on the wrong date!

I only just now realised archived Blips are included in the total count now AND I've subsequently missed my 5-year celebratory Blip. It has always been a special day for me, and to say I'm not happy would be an understatement. I don't care about the numbers - but I do care about my celebratory Blips.

If I could delete my back blips I would. I feel a bit cheated somehow because the 11th January was going to be my 365.

I agree with most others on this that backdated entries (the ones before we signed up to Blip) should not be counted towards our total. Or at least give us the option to exclude them from the total - maybe show two different tallies?

It's not as much of a problem for me, as I don't Blip daily, but for those who do, and have been doing so for a long time, this has really messed things up!

Also, a new signup could add 1000 backblips straight away and have these counted in their total. Doesn't seem fair to me really.

For me and my partner, this is really annoying, because we joined on the same day, and our blip birthdays always fell together, which was important to us. But we had put up different numbers of backblips and now our blip birthdays will be separate. We are very unhappy about this.

If you could somehow exclude the 'backdated' shots I would be happy, currently confused 6 months ahead of schedule...feeling guilty like I have jumped the queue...

This is one of the few areas where Blip Support have commented. I realise there is a lot going on, but the way so many things seem to have been swept away is very disconcerting. We need Blip Central's input to the discussions that are taking place. Why, for example, have all of the old icons disappeared in favour of new ones? What do they mean? Everything is so new! Keeping some familiar things from 'old Blip' would have helped to anchor the changes.

You are worrying me. The place doesn't feel the same. It doesn't feel like Blip!

precisely Graham , that's because it's not the old blip at all bt something else entirely

Whats confusing about "entries before the membership" and "entries after membership"? Thats not difficult, and its pretty insulting to say so.

I have also missed a special anniversary with the combining and am quite upset about it. We have always marked our blipbirthdays and this one has been taken from us and the date of future ones changed without my wanting it/permission.

Also, the website has somehow helped itself to an image from my computer that I have not given permission for it to use. I have not uploaded that avatar.

I am really worried by what mummy and girl writes about Blip helping itself to an image from her computer without her permission ... could we have some commentary/explanation from Blipcentral about that please?

My 2000th consecutive blip is coming up real soon (tomorrow! (but in reality that'll only be my 1998th consecutive entry)), and have been planning towards that. This has thrown a bit of a spanner into the works on that. If I remove the archived ones does that mean it would knock back the occurrence of that?

On a related note, Is there anywhere on the new site where the camera icons for each anniversary are listed?

I know it's Black Friday, appreciate the work you're doing in here and all probably just want to log-off and head out for some beer and egg nog, but as a Life Member I'm feeling just a wee bit perplexed at the moment.

    Cheers,

I think some of you have got it wrong,a backblip is your blip of the day post blipped. Mummyandgirls I don't think Blip would upload an image from your computer at all this is confusing as it would be impossible for Blip Central to do such a thing and is against everything Blip stands for.

  • Avatar
    monkey

Wrong Mario , back blips are pics taken before joining BF which is why they weren't counted in birthdays . what exactly does Blip stand for when they force changes that so many ( look at the other questions & replies ) obviously don't want or like

    JJ46

I agree with so many comments above: Existing Blipdays that I took celebratory photos for now will have the wrong day count as the pre-joining Blip photos are counted. I would vote for the option to not have them included in my count - as others have said, it feels like cheating (after all, now we could now fill up pre-Blip days with photos and get to blipping milestones more quickly).

I have been trying hard to embrace change. Trying to stay positive on the FB page and moan at the moaners, but Im not at all happy that my backblips have been added to my total and that blip birthdays are not important anymore. That was the only time I tended to hit spotlight!!!!
Please can you bring back the accurate blip count and not include the backblips?

Although I am feeling really positive about the changes, this is one aspect I find really disappointing. For me, my blip experience started when I signed up and that is the figure I would like to see recognised (particularly as I am a daily blipper). Counting my archived shots as skewed my numbers and meant I missed out on my 1500th. I had 413 archived shots and it has really thrown my figures out but, for me, they didn't count as part of my daily blip journey.

I signed up on my 35th birthday, two days before my youngest son was born. So this time of year has always had three birthdays; his, mine and a blip birthday. Not this year.

Something I've always thought about blip is that we're all doing a difficult thing, doing it every day. To keep it up we need the support of like-minded individuals... and now I'm peers with anyone who can post a bunch of images from their iPhoto library. And don't even get me started on the relaxation of the 'taken on the day' thing. Don't mess with your core business, people.

  • Avatar
    IWCharters

This is a piece of major stupidity and illustrates how little thought went into the consolidation of blips posted on dates before signing up. All "Birthdays" and the number of entries are now meaningless.

I posted a number of archive entries and since signing up three and a half years ago haven't missed a day but that isn't what my joournal shows now. Sure, I am nearer my 1500th but only if you apply the "new rules".

The "photo-a-day" concept and challenge is now meaningless here.

This is unforgivable and suddenly Blipfoto is much reduced place.

    Ah well, another Subscription lost.

Oh no. Sounds like you won't remove backdated from the count. Completely messes up the sense of achievement at consecutive blips and blip birthdays. Very sad. :-((( Please reconsider. I don't want to celebrate my new birthdays on a different day. Thankyou.

I can add nothing more to what has already been said, other than the fact that as a Life Member, I feel cheated and would like my money back. Keep the £25 for my first year (which is coming up in January) but give me back the remaining balance, as I no longer want to be a part of something that is more like Facebook than Blipfoto.
Why change something that worked so well? The white background is also hated by most. Please reconsider some of the changes.

Too much at once that changes the feel and purpose of the site, it is now skewed toward the social media aspect and away from the idea of being a community of photographers.
