Wide Angle Wednesday Challenge changes

Wide Angle Changes!!

From next week the following changes will be introduced to simplify tagging and knowing the theme!

Tags will still be 'widwed' followed by the date in DDMMYY order.

Eg.   Next week will be    -  widwed080317 (six digits)

You can submit any wide angle but if you want to do a theme then it will depend on the month!   You will need to use the first or last letter of the month OR the month number.

Eg.  March (3rd month) theme will be 'M' or ''H' or 3 - so any subject starting with those letters or showing anything with 3 in it!

Eg.   April (4th month) with be 'A' , 'L' or something with 4 in it!

The benefit with this system is you can work out the tag and theme without having to search for it! And of course you can still enter a wide angle if you can't find anything fitting the theme.

I hope you like the changes which are designed to save you searching for the tag or what the theme is. It should be easy to work out.

Any queries please e-mail me - details on my front page BobsBlips

Week tag should work when we get the hang of it - looks complicated but actually very simple.

Not to sure about the theme idea.  Where are we going here?

The theme idea isn't all that different from many in other challenges where it's a colour or whatever.

This month, just think of something beginning with M, H or something with three things in it. Plenty of scope!

It seems a bit complicated to me.....why not (like Flower Friday) just put the day/date only.  Sure there will be double ups, but those double up blips will be on pages further back.

I'm all for simplicity and I think many others are too :)

The Flower Friday tag is not good as you have repeated Fridays with the same date making it impossible to find the correct Friday on its own when browsing.

The only disadvantage with the 6 figure date is that Americans (USA) tend to put the day and the month back-to-front!  I'm sure they can be educated though . . .

Bob - ref the 'Theme' - do you mean blippers to invent there own theme based on the letters or number each month, or is the host going to suggest a theme as they do with other challenges - this is the bit that is not clear in you instructions.

Hi John

I have explained the date tag is to be DDMMYY order. I suppose it's a pain for some but you can't please everyone!

The idea with the theme is that the blipper can just submit any wide angle or use the first or last letter on month number to find a photo on a word starting with that letter.

Personally, I don't think it's a lot different where the host choses a word and the blippers 'bend' the idea to fit the photo the've taken!

So for March for example, a blipper could chose 'M' for mono or 'mum' or 'H' for 'house', OR find a photo with three things in it.

It'll still get the blipper thinking of the theme and still be fun, I think.

It negates the problem where the host choses a 'difficult' theme and the blipper can't find a photo to fit and so doesn't tag it for the challenge.

My way is there blipper has to think and can chose one of three things to post AND doesn't have to search for tags/theme which also puts some blippers off.

Unless there is a page where all the challenges are together and easy to find, with the blipper can easily find out what's what then I think it's the way to go.

I propose to give it a trial and see how it goes. If the feedback is that some or all of it isn't liked then I/we can look at it again and refine things.

If anyone has any ideas then I'll take it onbaord.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. I was hoping it was all simple as I find simple is best with most things.

Hi Bob

Yes, that's clarified it.  I thought you may have meant that on second or third reading - let's hope the others get it.  Having had to write instructions in my working life (a long time ago now, but I'm still at it from time to time) I have become a bit sensitive to how things can easily be misread or misinterpreted. The trouble is when you read it yourself you know what you mean/meant.

The date should cause no problem when it gets going. (Personally I use six or eight digit dates in reverse order so that they sort in chronological order, but I would not recommend that for general use.)  I did suggest something similar to Anne for Flower Friday, but it fell on deaf ears.

Looking forward to next Wednesday.

Hi John

(what's your blip name out of interest?)

The only downside with using the date as a tag is that if anyone wants to look back through previous weeks they will need a calendar to see the date/s! (but how often will someone do that!)

But when you think about it, it's so logical, but can be a bit awkward for those countries that put the month first. Even using three letters for the month, ie.   08MAR17 the blipper will still have to think about putting the day first so I've just left it at all numbers.

Thanks for your interest.

If you fancy hosting it for the odd week or two then I'm happy for that as I travel a lot. Just let me know.  :)

Hi Again Bob

Blip names show in grey below each comment (JohnW)

I had literally paused in the middle of uploading today's blip to suggest what you have just commented on the date format.

If you use a three letter month rather than the two digit month it will be a lot clearer to blippers.  It doesn't matter about capitals as the tag search is not case sensitive.

If you see 08Mar17 the position of the month jumps out.  The only problem that you will get here is making sure that the day is two digits - 08 NOT 8.  Flower Friday suffers from this.

You have offered me the opportunity to host in the past, but being in retirement I find that I don't seem to have a moment to spare - no weekends, no knocking off at 5pm, no holidays (what's a bank holiday - oh yes, when it gets crowded) . . .  Maybe at a later date when people stop leaning on me to do things locally - that and the kids - daaad, can you just . . . )
