White background is harsh!

One of the things I loved about Blipfoto was the shaded background, which brought color out in my photos, framed them so elegantly, and made viewing easy on the eyes. The white background unfortunately does the opposite--it's quite harsh on the eyes and washes the photos out. It's quite distracting and a noticeably less engaging viewing experience than before. It also makes Blipfoto look like every other social media site. It just feels like that warmth and class of the grey background is gone. I appreciate updating the site to address the ongoing frustrations of users, and it seems like a lot of people are on board with the white, but it would mean a lot to me, and I suspect other longtime users, to have the option of viewing the site on a darker background. Thank you!

I totally agree on the white background. At the moment I don't like anything at all about the new look, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

I really don't like the new look, I'm afraid. The grey was elegant and distinctive, and worked far better as a background for photos. I don't see me spending as much time on the site now, it's too harsh.

Completely agree. Pictures on stark white backgrounds effectively become darker and harder to see. On Smugmug I can change the background colours in galleries to whatever I like. Why can't we do that here.

In total agreement re the white background. I have been browsing for an hour and now have a headache. Could we get an option for grey?

I loved the grey background, it was so complimentary to the images and easy on the eye. I hope you will consider re-instating it.

I agree. I've had to turn the brightness right down to avoid getting a bad head - now all the photos look rubbish...

I hate the white!!! It is already giving me a headache. The black and grey was easy on the eyes and looked so good. The white is harsh and makes the whole site impersonal. Photos looked fabulous on the black...they just look like any old shot on Facebook.

I'm not a fan of the white either. I also don't like the fact you cant see all of the photo if it is a 'full' photo.

Definitely need to go back to a shaded grey. My eyes get blurry from the harshness of the white. Thank you.

I agree. The big colour thumbnails, and the fast responsive site are great (thankyou!) - but the grey background was a lot better than white, making blip distinctive and elegant. At least giving us an option would be super!

I totally agree with all the comments about the harshness of the white. Please, please, PLEASE bring back the grey, which really set off the photos as if they were on display in a gallery. I loved the overall look of the old site - it was so classy and stylish, and really stood out from all other photo sharing sites and blogs. The new style is so bland and stark - the white really does do my eyes in, especially as I usually do my journal late at night when my eyes are tired. Apart from the coloured thumbnails, I'm terribly disappointed with the look and format of the new site.

Sorry, but for me the new look a big turnoff.

I agree totally. If you click on the double arrows you get a black background (and for me at least makes the photo the right size for the screen) which is much better than the white, but it means and extra click - and I don't think you can do it for the thumbnail screens. I think the grey was great.

Have just checked out what happens when you click on the double arrows to get the black background - it crops the photo - surely it shouldn't?

I agree, I have had to turn down the brightness which doesn't do justice to the photographs. Really dislike the white.
