I totally agree with the above. I liked the distinction between Favourites and Rated. Sometimes photos are popular because of the number of followers and not the quality of the shots. I think there seems to be a big aspect of the original site missing which I liked browsing through

FollowPopular vs Favourites
I presume (hope) that the algorithm for Favourites has been rewritten and relaunched as 'Popular'
It's a bit early to see how it works but it's sad to see that that there is still a weighting for rather mediocre pictures of dogs (particularly two dogs!)

At least the spotlight seems to have gone :-D
As a user of the thumb 'like' icon on Fb and similar sites, I find the heart and stars insufficiently distinct in symbolism. I can't intuitively tell which I should use to just show that I like a shot. I have to go find the explanation of what each is used for.
Maybe a place ribbon icon for a technically great shot and a heart for 'I like it' is more intuitive? You could use a trophy icon for shots that actually win competitions...
I didn't mind Spotlight - it was just the algorithm that I had issues with.
I think the 'Popular' page will prove to be a gross misnomer. It seems that pictures don't drop off it after a time so I fear pictures will stay at the top, thus attracting more and more comments, stars and favourites irrespective of how good they are.
New blippers won't get a look in I fear.
I think spotlight would have been good if the algorithm weaighted against the same journals getting on day after day.
