Yes, the text search has gone but it's really not too hard to navigate the map with the mouse and the +/- scale. You can double click near where you want to place the marker and it will zoom in. We also now have 'Street View' which is very useful. Drag the little man from the left-hand scale to a place near a location and you will get a view of the actual place, if it has been covered by Google.
