I've no idea how the "popular" algorithm works, but SwillinBilly is still happily appearing on the list of folks I am following.

FollowWhere is SwillinBilly
Like Mr Templeton SwillinBilly posted a blip called Flatline(er). This should be on popular but is no where to be seen. He doesn't register on my list of followers either, although I have been following him for a while. Do we want this type of censorship? I for one don't, and I will contact people for their email addresses as I for one will not be renewing on what I thought was a site with integrity but obviously isn't.

It's clear that BlipCentral have intervened manually in Popular. I wouldn't qualify that as "censorship" -- SB's blip is still there in his journal, and so is Colin's -- and I can see why they'd want to do it (presenting Blipfoto at CES this week, it wouldn't look good). But I'd have a lot more respect for them if they'd be honest about it instead of claiming that they've done nothing to affect the popular blips.
I find it interesting that the last blip on the first page of popular (as I write) is a blip for the 4th with 121 views 38 hearts 72 comments and 15 favs. SB's last blip was for 5th 667 views 51 hearts 77 comments and 41 favs. You would expect by any algorithm it would still be ahead of the blip I quote.
They removed LeeAnne's blip from Popular yesterday, then deleted her post completely...if that's not censorship I don't know what is!
Actually, seeing as I'm on the west coast of Canada, this particular blip did indeed appear on the Popular page while lots of you were still in bed.
I must say, I was somewhat alarmed to see that a Blipper had got their camera at the ready on the heart monitor of their loved one (or possibly, their patient) just prior to flatlining. A morbid curiosity overcame me and I viewed.
Upon scrolling through the comments it became apparent that it was likely a downloaded image, rather than a photograph. And it was also quite clear that commenters were gaming Popular. Time of day and current position on Popular were reported throughout the string. Piling on of hearts and stars were gleefully added along the way.
Now then, we all know there are numerous Blippers that keep us all on the straight and narrow. It's got to be a photograph and it's got to be taken today. If either are transgressed we risk a reporting to Blip Central.
So, rather than assuming there are ongoing nefarious activities at Blip Central, let's take a moment to reflect ....
... swill was likely widely reported by Blippers for gaming Popular with a downloaded image, not to mention piling on of stars and hearts. Blip Central took heed, put the brakes on, and then swill slowly fell off Popular. But it took a whole bunch of people that are truly enjoying Blip to shift swill off.
So, swill and his commenters are more than likely the architects of his Popular page displacement.
@KipperCabin: on the other hand, if BlipCentral had treated dissenters with more respect, for example by replying to their questions and concerns instead of ignoring them, all this gaming of the system might not have happened in the first place.
SwillinBilly has had his account suspended.
Black Tulip do you have definite evidence of that the last I read on his account he was leaving of his own accord.
SwillinBilly says he has had his account suspended and he can no longer access it. He's on Facebook.
Black Tulip has he contacted Blip Central about the situation/ I couldn't access my account when the change over first happened?
If he has it would be nice to know what they said, if he hasn't I assume he isn't too bothered.
Don't quote me but I think he has. I am not privy to the ins and outs and only found out a few days ago.
Gaming was going on under the old spotlight so you can't blame gaming of popular on anything other than an individuals desire to be featured and so they play the required game.
