Too much scrolling needed

I'm giving myself time to get used to the new 'design', but one thing is a big turn-off and that's the vast area that pages are now taking up. I'm on a PC with not a small screen (1366x 768) but I'm forever having to scroll around. Even my home page with the browser practically full screen I can see only THREE whole follower avatars, which is putting art before function by a very long way. If the use of avatars here, as opposed to latest blips, is deliberate then a quarter of their current size and spacing would still be more than enough.

Whilst vertical scrolling is fine for long sequences of comments, it's unacceptable for 'everypage' viewing.
